Middleford Avenue Alleyway (Downtown Medford)
Description
Why This Spot Works
This is an excellent location for creating a wide variety in one session — brick, stairs, metal, ivy, clean walls, and urban textures are all within a short walk.
Seasonal Details
Ivy is present year-round. A grapevine-style plant over one of the gated doors stays green in spring and summer and dries out in fall and winter, creating a textured look in every season.
Lighting & Best Times
This location works best in the morning, afternoon, and early evening. Tall buildings cause the light to drop off earlier in the day, but the space remains versatile. Midday can produce some harsher light in spots, though there are plenty of shaded areas to work with.
Parking & Access
Free parking is available in the public garage directly next to the alley and is the easiest option. The alley itself has very low vehicle traffic and feels open rather than cramped. Foot traffic is minimal and mostly limited to nearby business owners using rear entrances.
Permissions & Notes
There are no known restrictions for photographing in the alley. To access the stairway and gated area, you may need to ask the business located on the front side (currently a comic shop). In the past, business owners have been friendly and accommodating to open the gate and allow use of the stairs — it never hurts to ask.
